Gates Millennium Scholarship Program
High-achieving adolescents from ethnic minorities in the US are eligible to apply for the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program, which offers academic scholarships and further education opportunities. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, provided funding for it through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation when it was founded in 1999. Gates Millennium Scholars get academic, financial, and social assistance in addition to leadership development opportunities and a complete scholarship to attend any college or university in the United States.
Eligibility for the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program
Students that wish to apply must be:
- A senior in high school who qualifies for Pell.
- Having a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent) and being in good academic standing as a US citizen or permanent resident.
A student must also intend to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at a private or public college or university in the United States that has earned accreditation.
Requirement for the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program
A perfect applicant will possess:
An exceptional high school academic record (in the top 10% of the graduating class)
Proven capacity for leadership, as evidenced by involvement in extracurricular activities, community service, or other initiatives.
Outstanding personal success abilities (e.g., motivation, perseverance, emotional maturity, etc.)
Amount
According to the Student Aid Index and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the process employed by a Scholar’s college or university, Scholars will be awarded funds for the entire cost of attendance (tuition, fees, books, housing and food, and may include additional personal costs.) that is not already covered by other forms of financial aid.
